Michigan Playmakers Founded

We were first founded as an AAU organization by former basketball players of Bishop Borgess High School. The first team was a U9 travel team which played various schools and organizations including Southfield Christian, Bates Academy, Franklin Road Christian, Motor City Legends, Eastside Warriors and more.

Jan 2010
Training Begins

Practices and workouts began for kids ages 4-10 starting in January. We started competing in leagues and tournaments with our 10u, 9u, 8u & 6u teams in Canton, Detroit, Highland Park, Southfield, Warren and Flint. We are constantly growing as an organization, and in the process our kids are learning how to play the game with a sense of discipline. In less than a year, we had over 50 kids participating in practices and games through Michigan Playmakers.

Jan 2011
Organization Grows

By January 15, 2011 we have grown to over 150 kids ages 4-11 participating in our developmental in-house league or travel AAU teams. Our growth stemmed from a combination of word of mouth and sponsorships from Adidas and State Farm. Additionally, by this time we were able to host successful camps, tournaments, and clinics throughout Southeastern Michigan. Our teams have played everywhere from Lansing to Chicago, competing against various school teams and basketball clubs in the Detroit area like Henly Int'l Academy, Gesu, Fabe, The Family, Pontiac Cobras, Power Stroke, Gators, Judges Court, Detroit Showtime, and more.

Mar 2012
Premier Basketball

As of March 2012 we have become Michigan's Premier basketball organization. Our outstanding parent support, amazing team of coaches, and committed athletes have all helped us to achieve and hold onto this title. At this point, we were able to run our leagues, camps, clinics, and tournaments year-round throughout the entire country. We'd also added U14 and U16 teams in an effort to become more competitive within the state of Michigan.

Mar 2013
Nationally Recognized

Our organization had become respected nationally by 2013 for having dedicated coaches and hard working players. Our extremely loyal parents had continued to establish us as a first class organization, and the results spoke for themselves. Our year-round training had expanded to benefiting kids of all ages, which allowed us to take part in more in-depth training and compete against some of the top teams in the country.

Apr 2014
Our Teams Took Off

All of our age groups were competing across the country at high-level tournaments. Our U16 and U17 teams played on all four NCAA certified weekends in Indianapolis, Chicago, Cincinnati and Las Vegas. This gave the kids great exposure in addition to allowing them scholarship opportunities at the Division I, II, III and NAIA levels. Additionally, our younger kids were playing against some of the best competition in the country including teams from Maryland, New York, Indiana, and more.

Sep 2017
Playmaker Kids

By 2017, we were proud to announce that we had sent 95% of our first 3 graduating classes ( '15, '16, & '17) to college through basketball. We were amazed at the progression of our kids and our program along with all of the opportunities that its provided. We have been able to stand the test of time by emphasizing development, training and trusting the process. The future is bright, and today college coaches know what they are getting when recruiting a 'Playmaker Kid'.

Leading By Example

Playmakers had become one of the premier independent youth organizations in the country! We began our Lady Michigan Playmakers program in the fall of 2019’ and have now have 6 girls teams. Our boys program has helped 100+ kids get into school on athletic and/or academic scholarships. Our evolution over the last decade has been directly connected to the strong parent commitment and family-first environment. The mentorship from our coaches is second to none in the southeastern Michigan area! Our motto is simple - “Lead by Example”
